Recorded on October 21, 2013 by Tamerin Scott and Gaël Lamielle.
One Health is the idea that human health, animal health, and the environment are inextricably linked. It is an interdisciplinary collaboration between physicians, veterinarians, scientists, public health workers, nurses, environmental health specialists, and other professionals to improve the health of our planet and all life forms on it. Veterinarians play a crucial role in this concept because it is the only profession that works at the interface of these three “One Health” components. The Veterinary Public Health Program in Los Angeles County utilizes this connection every day to improve the health of our community in Southern California. Our presentation will further explain the concept of One Health, the role of a public health veterinarian in this initiative, and demonstrate One Health in action through examples from our work at the Los Angeles County Public Health Department.
